Interdisciplinary Studies Department (IDS)
The materials in Boxes 1-5 consist of files created by Prof. Joseph Fischer while he chaired the IDS Department, 1994-1997, and donated by Prof. Fischer in 2008. They are supplemented by an "Introduction to the M.Ed. Field Based Program: Philosophy, Structure & Processes" (1984) and "Handbook for Term 1" (1984), donated by Prof. Fletcher DuBois in 2011.
Kindergarten Work
Notebooks,drawings, and Froebel Gift work belonging to various guests or visitors and non-students of the Chicago Kindergarten College. Work belonging to Susan Blow, Carolina Gerke, who studied with Froebel's widow, Minna Shellhorn, who studied with Froebel, Mabel Agnes Gerrish, Carrie Coit, Margaret Maclachlan,and Edward Heall.
Montessori Instructional Manipulatives
Instructional tools designed by Maria Montessori for her Montessori Education Method. Includes a partial Broad Stair, a partial Pink Tower, several lacing frames, a partial Narrow Stair (Counting Rods), counting sticks, wood tiles, a box of colored silk spools, shakers, Cylinder Blocks, a Geometric Cabinet and a Fabric Cabinet.

Nickerson Photo Company photographic negatives
Photographic negatives taken by the Nickerson Photo Company for the National College of Education. This company took many of the photographs during the 1960's and 1970's that the school used for publications and promotional materials.

Writings on Kindergarten and Early Childhood Educational Theory and Practice, published and unpublished
Publications, essays, chilren's stories, transcripts of speeches and method manuals for educators. Many of the writings are specific to the kindergarten and the kindergarten movement and are written by prominent educators in the Kindergarten Movement and early-childhood education. Collection also includes writings and programs from the International Kindergarten Union and the National Kindergarten Association.
